Michael Masterman-Smith

CA Labs / Former Congressional Candidate

Dr. Masterman-Smith is STEM researcher, pharmacologist, entrepreneurial scientist and public speaker. He is an opinion leader in fields of cannabis-based medicine, cancer therapeutics, cancer stem cells and next generation lab-on-chip technologies.  His work identifying cancer stem cells in soft tissue cancers in 2003 has been deemed a high impact discovery by the National Cancer Institute.  The discovery helped transform pharmaceutical drug development towards finding effective treatments to spare healthy cells and target these ‘tumor initiating’ cells. Among numerous publications, he published the first evidence of cannabinoids as potential breakthrough drugs in treating these highly malignant cells in 2013. Currently, he is Chief Scientific Officer of the cannabis-based botanical pharmaceutical company CA Labs, Inc. which is focused on cancer and other hard-to-treat conditions.  He is a former candidate for U.S. House of Representatives and founder of the Center for Accessibility, Research and Education (CARE), a healthcare advocacy organization dedicated to improving healthcare in the United States.
